Sleep bruxism or nocturnal tooth grinding ocurrs in about 8% of adults and 1/3 of parents report bruxism in their children. The eitiology of bruxism if unknown but stress, medication, sleep apnea may play a roll. Studies have shown that treating sleep apnea helps to alleviate sleep bruxism. Stress may play a role yet there is no psychological cause for this disorder.
Those who grind their teeth often do suffer from earaches, jaw pain, jaw joint disease, headaches and dental damage. Treatment usually consists of a prescribed oral appliance made of soft plastic to protect the teeth. Minimizing stress and jaw aligning exercises may also help. Medications have not been found to be helpful. Severe nocturnal bruxism may require adults to consult a sleep specialist in addition to a dentist.
    Good Luck!

go see a dentist, they will fashion a mouth guard. There’s not much you can do since you arent conscious or in control of what your body does when you sleep.
