How Do You Get Over The Habit Of Not Brushing Your Teeth?

When from a baby to late childhood you never brushed your teeth because you didn’t eat anything by mouth but by stomach. Until you got your tube taken out. Since then you have a heck of a time getting in a steady habit of brushing your teeth twice a day. and you are well into your 20s
Suggestions?
Don’t answer if you’re gonna say “Just do it” or “ew gross” because that doesn’t answer my question. No harassments or judgements.

You make things a habit by doing them. Put your toothbrush in a place where you’ll see it often and make it a part of your daily schedule. Decide that you’re going to brush after your morning shower, or after breakfast, and then start doing it, pretty soon you wont even have to think about it. Write yourself a note if you have to and stick it on the mirror. Then decide that you’re going to start brushing them before bed too, have someone remind you every day until it just becomes habit if you need to. Once you do something every day for a while it’ll just become habit naturally, or set the alarm on your cell phone to go off twice a day at the same time (example -9:30 am and 9:30 pm), until you’ll remember without it.
You know how some people ask, “why dont people brush their teeth in the shower?” Well I do brush my teeth in the shower (saves time if you ask me) maybe you should put your toothbrush and some toothpaste in a cup near the shower, or buy a suction cup toothbrush holder and a shower tray and put them in there, so every time you hop in the shower you’ll see it and remember. That’s become my habit. Right after I put shampoo in my hair, I brush my teeth, and when I’m finished I rinse the shampoo out.

Well, I would make it fun. It takes colourful toothbrushes and different flavors of toothpastes to keep it interesting. Perhaps a motorized tooth brush would help. I also think you can write out a regimen to be repeat in the morning and at night. Wash your face, brush your teeth, brush your hair. I think that it should be structured.

just think of nice shiny smooth teeth and fresh breath !!! Its like shaving…something you do daily to look and feel nice…comb your hair..to feel nice and look good…brush your teeth so you have nice breath…the dental bills alone will remind you to do it too…you can do it..just practice..I have faith in you

If its a matter of forgetfulness then maybe you should leave notes that you would see in the morning, and at night.
    For inst ace..
If you always drink coffee in the morning, put a note on the machine saying “brush my teeth” or w.e
And at night if you always.. watch t.v or read or even go to the washroom, put another note.
And hopefully it will turn into your natural routine
    Hope i helped, Good luck.

I would say just try and remind yourself of the daily habit maybee by stiking a post it somewhere in the bathroom or something like that. Just thinking of the thought of what is on your teeth should also help with the urge to clean them. No judgments from me!

Plain and simple: think about bad breath, cavities, pain, horrible yellow, greenish or dark teeth, and moreover: people not being comfortable around you because your mouth smells, you seem to them a careless & dirty person, etc. Apply this feeling and thoughts to your future partners, employeers, couples, friends, etc. Stick a paper with this to your mirror or your shower (keep a toothbrush in your shower if necessary) or whatever place you look often, and simply have the will to brush your teeth at leat after your breakfast and after your dinner (though you should as well after lunch).

imagine not smiling, eating what you like to eat, or being in constant sharp pain, having people judge you just because you don’t have teeth.
    keep smiling,

Loose a few teeth and you will brush. You will appreciate your teeth. You can do it I have confidence in you.

Schedule it like you would any other task.
Use your day timer or even a digital wristwatch with an alarm function to remind yourself to brush just before going to bed.
After you brush your teeth in the evening, put your toothbrush directly into the sink and leave it there. You will see it when you go to use the toliet and wash your hands in the morning. That can be your morning reminder to brush your teeth.
    Best of luck,

Take a Ritz cracker. Scrape some of the placque off of your teeth and put it on the cracker. Now look at the cracker, and consider whether or not you would want to eat that cracker with the placque all over it. Realize that is exactly what you are doing when you don’t brush your teeth and eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.
I am not making fun of you, I assure you. This visualization motivates many of my patients to brush their teeth at least twice a day, if not more often than that.
The simple fact that you are asking about this tells me you want help. Try this visualization. Good luck! cgl DDS

I know how you feel. I never feel like brushing my teeth, so what I do, is after breakfast, I won’t let myself do anything else until I brush my teeth. Then, at night, I won’t let myself go to bed until I brush my teeth.
Some other tips that may help are:
-Make a list of things you HAVE to do everyday… Like a morning and night routine.
-Just think: Brushing your teeth takes two minutes, and you would much rather brush your teeth for a total of 4-6 minutes a day instead of getting cavities, gum disease, yellow teeth, bad breath, and a lot more problems.
    Hope this helps! Good luck!

Like most things…. Set a schedule, do it first thing in the morning when you wake up. Before you do anything go to the bathroom and brush your teeth then proceed with your normal shower activities. AT first it will seem like a pain or chore but like all habits good and bad they can be learned.

It takes repeating something 20 times to become a habit!

I wold say once you get out of the shower brush them or take the toothbrush to the shower with you and do it in there. If you don’t shower daily, i would do it right after you wake up while you are in the bathroom doing morining “business”.

start off by brushin ur teeth once a day when u wake up b cuz da nasty morning breath taste should remind u 2 brush ur teeth

Well, just think about this. When you don’t brush your teeth for a few days, there are over a thousand types of bacteria in your mouth. That’s what causes bad breath.
Put up sticky notes on your bathroom mirror so that when you wake up and go in the bathroom, you’ll see them and do it right away. (I would do it after I ate breakfast though). Or, if you can, email yourself.
Plus, think about losing and chipping half your teeth a 50.
Hope this helps. I used to have the same problem too. Once I started brushing them all the time, My teeth got much whiter and going to the dentist wasn’t quite as embarrasing.

i use to only brush my teeth once a day then i noticed my teeth were turning so i brushed them for like 20 minutes one day with baking soda and when i went to the dentist i got compliments on how well i brushed! so i would suggest brushing at least 4 times a week and every month or so do a thorough scrubbing with baking soda

You should set your alarm to two times a day when you’re always up. Like 8am and 8pm. Turn off the alarm , and just go do it. You’ll find that when you’re brushing your teeth, your mind really wanders into other places. So the time really goes by pretty fast. Be sure to use a large , soft brush. By “large” I mean at least an inch long of brushes. Good luck to you, and congrats!! :)

well..lets see, if you dont brush your teeth will rot away in your mouth, you could get gum disease causing your gums to bleed, and/ or hurt. And if you have no teeth, your food is very limited. – im just reminding so please dont get mad at me.
I’m thinking that you could probably get your friends to help remind you, you could set the alarm clock for the time you want to brush your teeth. Just remember..it only takes a few minutes out of your day..and it helps you stay healthy, and happy. ^.^
