Is A Toothbrush Really Unsanitary, Even When Covered With Modern Day Toothpaste?

I see these adds for these UV cleaning devices etc. for one’s toothbrush. Doesn’t modern day toothpaste have all that bacteria and germ fighting stuff in it? Do you really need to sanitize your brush from day to day. Would appreciate some real dentist’s answer, not just an opinion.

If your toothbrush is allowed to air dry then most bacteria will dessicate (dry out and die). You can put your toothbrush through a dishwasher if you want to. Toothpaste is really dental soap – it helps remove some of the plaque in your mouth but it is more the action of the brush that works to keep your teeth and gums healthy. The ads also show far too much toothpaste on the brush – to be effective you only need a pea sized amount of toothpaste.
